Melatonin is a hormone known mostly because helps regulate sleep. Its activity is synchronized when we wake up, it’s repressed, and at night it’s activated. It remains in lethargic mode during the day and wakes up at night to act for 12 hours. In other words, it is the hormone that our brain produces in reaction to darkness and that helps synchronize circadian rhythms, our biological clock, which is governed by 24-hour periods. However, in recent years, it has received increased attention from the scientific community following the discovery of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
The skin suffers a deterioration process with age and the production of melatonin decreases. This hormone improves the quality of our skin by recovering the tissues and protecting it from environmental damage such as tobacco or ultraviolet radiation. It helps regenerate damaged skin cells, its appearance and state of health. It stimulates the synthesis of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, also repairs damaged vessels, improves blood circulation, and increases the supply of nutrients and oxygen.
CBD has relaxing, nourishing, soothing properties and is also able to increase the ability to adapt to environmental factors and prevent damage caused by them. CBD, or cannabidiol, contains several antioxidants, vitamin E and fatty acids. It has a beneficial effect as a cellular regenerator, inhibiting the loss of collagen and preventing premature skin aging. For this reason, it is also widely used in anti-aging cosmetics.
Why take Melatonin and CBD?
Drugs that help you fall asleep, do so by altering the architecture of sleep. Sleep architecture is the division of sleep time into light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep. In addition, people who use medication to help them fall asleep are at greater risk of developing cognitive impairment. Clinical studies have shown that CBD improves sleep quality without influencing sleep architecture, eliminating the harmful effects of medication.
CBD enhances its beneficial effects when mixed with other natural products such as Melatonin, improving sleep or acting as an anti-inflammatory whether used in oils or creams.
